Elections

Postby KTHN » Tue Jun 08, 2010 11:37 am

So, tomorrow there are elections over here. My voting pass is lying proudly on the table and I know what I am going to vote tomorrow (SP (socialistische partij/socialist party). Because of their view on social security and most importantly health care.

I was wondering. Are you left? Right? What did you vote last election? What are you going to vote? What's important for you to make that decision?

*edit*

This is the outcome:
There are 150 seats in total

CDA (christelijk democratisch appel/christian democratic appel, center right) 21
PVDA( Partij Voor De Arbeid/ labour party, center left) 30
SP (Socialisische party/ socialist party, left conservative) 15
VVD (Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie/ people's party of freedom and democracy, center right, liberal) 31
PVV (Partij Voor de Vrijheid/ Freedom party, far right, economically left, anti-islam, nationalist) 24
Groenlinks (Green left, left progressive, enviorment is important) 10
D66 (Democraten 66, democrats 66, center right, progressive) 10
Christenunie (Christian union, christian, center, conservative) 5
SGP (Staatsgereformeerde partij, state reformed party, Extremely conservative christians) 2
PvdD (Partij voor de Dieren, party for animals, leftist animal welfare and enviorment oriented) 2

So there is not going to be a left majority, even though it was to be expected I'm quite dissapointed.

I'm socially left and financially right-of-center, I guess. Such distinctions don't seem to apply around here though, as I'm unable to put any label on any existing party. Well, except Otrikafo: these guys are definitely far right.

Next election here is supposed to happen by the end of the year. I'm almost sure I'll put in a blank vote: all the even remotely valid candidates are either in jail or in exile, and all that remains are the putschists and the incompetent.

Actually, I'm not voting. I have far too much going on to vote (which is a weak excuse according to a lot of people) but I feel disenfranchised from the system. It's difficult to vote when one thinks anarchy is the most realistic view. I mean... Bush got into office via the United States' court system, so obviously he with money and connections rules.
As for our current president... I'm still not sure if President Obama is as great as I would like to believe. The past administration just destroyed my faith in the political system, and the state of politics in most of the world just disgusts me.
Looking back through history, it just seems like same sh** different day. And it's sad. I want to believe that something good can come from voting, but...
Like I said in a different thread, real change comes from within society.

Were I to vote, I would vote for the party that would legalize weed. It wouldn't solve many problems, but at least then the majority of United States citizens wouldn't be hypocritical.
